What are they?
You don’t have to be psychic to use Tarot cards. You do need, however, to be in tune with your intuition. Our intuition is our natural ability to instinctively sense things in the world around us. Intuition has nothing to do with our cognitive abilities. It is a gut feeling we get regardless of how a particular situation or person may seem. Intuition lets us know when something is wrong when all appears right.
For example, there are times when we may meet someone who appears wonderful to everyone but we still may feel something is not right with that person. We may not be able to understand what that odd sense is hinting at but we know something isn’t quite as it should be. That is our intuition warning us. What happens in a case like this is that although we will act friendly outwardly, inwardly we are guarded because of the feeling we have on a gut level.

Greater or Major Arcana
These are the “Big Deal” cards. The ones that represent a “Big Picture” view. Think of planning a trip somewhere you had never been. Chances are you would do some research first, even before you got the airline, bus or boat ticket. You would check out the currency, places to stay and determine the highlights of your visit. If you’re going to India, and you want to see the Taj Mahal, that is a “big deal” destination. The Major Arcana is that place in your reading. Things you planned before you got here. They are the feelings, emotions and spirit giving you a heads up on what you might expect.
The Royals in each suit
“Look at all the people” — These tend to be actual people in your life. The Queens and Kings, the pages and knights. Don’t let their gender guide you though. A man can become motivated by his Divine Feminine just as a woman can be guided by her inner Divine Masculine. Remember to ask all the right questions and use your intuition.
The Lesser Arcana or “pip” cards
Paying attention to the numbers, the suit and the symbols in each of the lesser cards –which by the way, doesn’t mean ‘not important’– they are probably the most relevent element in tying all the pieces together to tell the story. If there are more of one suit than others, you’re looking at a situation that must be addressed to help yourself or the person you’re reading for.
